No matter what your favourite movie genre is, everyone loves a happy film every once in a while.

Whether it’s a story where the main character has to go through some hardship before getting to the good part, or maybe it’s just a simple ensemble of friends having a good time.

Whatever it is, a proper feel-good movie is the perfect remedy on a hard day.

They are also perfect for a day such as the first Friday of every October, which has come to be known as World Smile Day - a day devoted to genuine smiles.

This year, why not enjoy World Smile Day and/or the weekend with a lovely film? Here are 10 brilliant feel-good movies on Sky Cinema you could watch.

Forrest Gump

Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump in the movie 'Forrest Gump'.

Starting with a Hollywood classic, Forrest Gump is a delightful tale of one man recounting his adventures through some of the most significant key moments in the world at the time while he awaits to be reunited with his childhood love.

The emotions are strong with this one. Tom Hanks’ portrayal of the titular character with a low IQ but an endearing outlook on life and his relationships really make the film.

Forrest Gump will pull on your heartstrings with every viewing and is a must-watch for all.

Groundhog Day

Bill Murray in the 80s and 90s was an unstoppable force of comedy, supplying the world with another brilliant movie almost every year. Groundhog Day may just be the best of them all.

He plays a cynical man who gets stuck reliving the same day over and over. First starting to use the repeating moments to his advantage, he eventually realizes that the only way to escape his time loop is to become a better person.

Groundhog Day is a funny, heartwarming, and thought-provoking film that explores themes of personal growth, redemption, and the meaning of life, doing so with comedy making it an easy and perfect feel-good watch.

Mamma Mia!

It is literally impossible to be unhappy when Abba is playing, especially when it is in the form of this brilliant musical rom-com.

Mamma Mia! features many of the popular group's top hits throughout whilst also telling a touching story of one soon-to-be bride trying to find out who her real father is.

This film will not fail to have you standing on the furniture, singing and dancing along with each number.

Hitch

Will Smith and Kevin James starring in the movie 'Hitch'.

One of Will Smith’s more underrated films, Hitch is another rom-com but this time without the singalong.

Smith is the suave titular character who helps to find love yet doesn’t look for it himself - until someone who could be his worst enemy comes along and changes everything.

It’s a somewhat relatable film about finding love by simply being yourself, told with great comedic moments and fantastic chemistry throughout the cast.

E.T.

Another silver-screen classic, E.T. is one you can enjoy as a family, with friends, with your loved one, or simply on your own.

It’s a lighthearted story that is sure to bring you back to your youth as you’re watching it, really providing that warm fuzzy feeling in your tum-tum that was mentioned earlier.

We as humans have always been fascinated by the thought of extra-terrestrial beings, and a movie about one who befriends these kids who want to help him is a proper feel-good story that will hold up till the end of time.

Bridget Jones’s Diary

British romcoms are a great option as a feel-good film for those who enjoy them, and there aren’t many much better than the Bridget Jones’s Diary series.

Like Hitch, there’s some relatability to the concept but with that comedic aspect that makes each film a good watch.

If Bridget Jones’s Diary is right up your alley, then you’ll be glad to know that all three films are on Sky Cinema.

Happy Feet & Happy Feet 2

Happy is in the name of the films, thus making them perfect feel-good movies!

Happy Feet was a rousing success when it came out and is still beloved by all. Another jukebox musical perfect for families where the kids can be captivated by the dancing penguins while the parents can sing along to each iconic song.

Happy Feet 2 simply adds to the fun, and thankfully both films are on Sky Cinema for you to enjoy.

The Wizard of Oz

Voted second in Variety’s 100 greatest movies of all time, The Wizard of Oz is an exceptionally great classic that still cannot be bettered despite coming out in 1939.

The overlying themes throughout the story along with the visuals help this film stand the test of time and is still enjoyed by all ages.

Grown Ups & Grown Ups 2

Not a feel-good story like the others but both Grown Ups films are great watches that will have you smiling and laughing at the antics of Adam Sandler and his band of merry idiots.

Five childhood friends who have now grown up come together with their respective families and enjoy a holiday together. It's just like us all, only with crazier moments.

Each family tells a story between themselves as well as the bigger one of the five friends coming together again. The second film only builds on that, seeing them back together and closer once more, challenging the youth in their hometown.

Everyone love-hates a Sandler film every now and then, and Grown Ups is always a solid option.
